When To Pump Your Septic Tank

You don't want to be worried about your septic system, but you don't want to waste money on unnecessary pumping either. Our goal is to help you understand how your septic system works so you can make better decisions regarding regular service.

First off, your septic tank is only PART of your septic system (the other part is the septic field). The septic tank is designed to operate "full" as part of normal operation. As new wastewater from the home enters the tank, the solid waste separates from the water and sinks to the bottom of the tank as the breakdown process begins to work. The existing wastewater settles out and then relatively clean effluent water leaves the septic tank into the septic field, either via gravity or an electric pump system.

The primary goal of regular pumping service is to remove the solid waste from the septic tank before it builds up too much and spills into the septic field, which was only designed to handle clean effluent wastewater. If you wait too long to pump your tank, permanent damage can be done to your actual septic field, leading to extremely expensive repairs. And this is why regular pumping is important!

Every 2-5 Years Icon

Every 2-5 Years (General Rule)

Most septic systems should be pumped every 2-5 years, depending on tank size, household size and usage patterns. Regular pumping prevents backups and extends your system's lifespan.

When You Notice Warning Signs

Don't wait to schedule service if you notice slow drains, gurgling sounds, sewage odors or wet spots in your yard. These are signs your septic system may need attention.

Since our septic pumping services do not touch anything inside your home, you don't actually need to be present during your service. If you would like to be onsite for your service, please let us know and we will do our best to accomodate your request.

Hour On Site Icon

About An Hour On Site

Septic pumping services are typically completed in under an hour, though this may vary based on the size of your septic system, and whether or not your tank lids are exposed. If we have to dig to access your tank, this typically adds an extra 30-60 minutes to the job.

Clean Tank Icon

A Clean Tank

By the time we leave, roughly 99% of the solid waste and wastewater will be removed from your tank. While tanks may never be 100% empty or "clean", unless we physically cannot get access, we will pump out of all of the chambers of your septic system, maximizing the time needed before your next septic tank cleaning.

After-Service Follow-Up
